NSDC offices
Castle House provides Newark and Sherwood District Council with new centralised administrative and civic accommodation in Newark town centre to replace outdated and remote offices at Kelham.
This three storey, £6.35 m building comprises modern, flexible spaces including Customer Services, Council Chamber and Job Centre at ground level and open-plan offices at first and second floor levels. The plan form is H-shaped with two wings of upper floor offices either side of centrally positioned core facilities which include meeting rooms, break-out and refreshment areas and touchdown meeting zones- a configuration which allows adaptability of use by other potential occupancies. The building’s design maximises daylight penetration and natural ventilation which together with its solar protection, thermal mass, high levels of insulation and extensive arrays of roof-top photo-voltaic panels result in high energy efficiency and low carbon output. The building is proving to be a healthy and enjoyable environment to work in and has achieved a BREEAM Excellent accreditation.
