Malt Cross Music Hall – Nottingham
William Saunders were appointed to transform one of Nottingham’s best loved venues into a multipurpose heritage and creative arts centre for public use.
A Grade II Listed former Victorian Music Hall situated within The Old Market Square Conservation Area, this project required careful consideration to ensure that any impact on the heritage asset was minimised.
The vacant basement, sub-basement and cave levels were extensively refurbished and brought back into use to feature various new rooms, including a music rehearsal room, exhibition gallery and a heritage art and craft room which host an array of learning and heritage activities.
The existing café/bar facility to the ground and first floors was extensively refurbished and reconnected vertically to the lower floors of the building with a new staircase and lift.
The sympathetic and considerate scheme has retained the character and enhanced the heritage value of the building, along with significant improvements to the street scene of St James’s Street. The scheme has delivered a building which now operates as a single entity and is in full and sustainable use for the future.
An exciting and challenging project on a unique building.
